Description

Breathing of many things, every day is drawn on a different breath.
No single air is caught beneath my teeth, against my lungs -
It is all individual; though it all clings to the same mortality.

It is up to us to see what we do with this, this gift.
Whatever religion, whichever god (one or many, or none)
Has blessed us, given us a gift that we can use or spoil away
Under the slithering mistakes and compromises of humanity.

The earth bore you from your womb, take her into you:
Every time you open your eyes, jaws clenched into morning
Every time you look at a newborn sun, branched out -
Against the sky.
It amazes me how simple we are, how pure and how faint.
We exist, we extinguish, we may die at any day.
But still we fight and still we bicker and still we run.
Here’s to the purity of our morality, however long.

The idea of purity always inspires me.
It's such a powerful quality.
